And now, for the much anticipated, much awaited, eagerly fought over, highly-prized videos of the century. The Amazing Win. Shot lovingly in high-quality Nokia N93i format by the unknown director, and distilled onto this online portal by the masked poster, available for viewing for the first time ever:
The day began with the JBJ-ians warming up with a bit of a cheer practice:
The first attempt was, a bit disjointed. But the second one:
Was good.
Now, we should actually be having a song item here, but due to technical errors in recording, the file that resulted was too large to be posted here. We'll need to fix that. In the meantime, the race was about to begin:
Somehow, the cute twin terrors - Jeremiah and Joel seem to always get in the way of the camera. Check out the hot car Jeremiah's posing in front of.
The race proper was on, and we were given the amazing task of making amazing pigs. Check this video out:
Folks, it's not as easy as it looks. Them pigs can be tough little critters to nail down, and even with Mr. Sunday School himself "Steven Yam" in our team, the Bible conundrums were insanely difficult (right Steven?). But, we won. And here's the ending video to prove it:
Kudos James. Let's go all the way!
Your regular editor wasn't around last weekend to be part of the Olympics, so here's a quick report from our guest writer and Assistant Deputy Commander, Sook Kuan.
But first, 41 people! That's unbeatable. It's better than winning, it's more important than scoring. Give yourselves a pat.
We have not received any videos or photos to put up, but will do that soon. But while we're waiting, check out Assistant Commander Cyrus, who best sums up what's Group James up to right now:
And now, on to Sook Kuan's report:
Under the scorching sun with no sea breeze, the James and the rest of the youth groups marched towards the land of Chin’s field. Opening by Kayson who was last year’s marathon runner and unfortunately, won by him again this year. Then the marathon race oi out. From our team for male marathon we have Mr. Tiong King and for female marathon, we have Ms. Ang Irene. We salute to both of you. Indeed this event is the hardest among the other events. Persevere till the end!!!
Not forgetting James’ Deputy
Commander, Ang Jocelyn who won the 100m… girl oiwer!!! Then for the golfing,
James won!! 4x100m for female we won!!! Hurdles female we won!!! Girl oi-wer
indeed…sorry guys. Try harder next time.
Then we have our Petra version of street captain ball with 4 guys and 3 gals. The 1st match was against group Stephen. They are indeed super in their power and but yet we are super as well in our James Oi spirit even though we did not win this match. Next, against Andrew. Hahaha… this time we won and again they too have the spirit!!! Go Andrew! After the two matches, we did not give up although everyone is already exhausted. Our sports manager, Cyrus Liew, say we should Oi all the way. So we did and there goes our last match with team Peter. It was a close fight but thanks to Sammo on behalf of Peter, they won’t this match.
From the land of Chin’s field we marched back (in cars) to Petra. This was the height of the Olympic. Cheerleading!!! Oi! Oi! Oi! All groups danced and cheered well. Group James was the last group to perform and the best saves for the last. With the unity in our cheer and synchronization of our dance, our cheerleading team really rocks our church. The ultra-violet lights were amazing and we danced with our white shirts glowing. We emerged as 1st runner-up for cheerleading and overall with Peter as the champion for cheerleading and overall.
Well done everyone! Here we would
want to take this opportunity to thank Tiong King (marathon and brought
7friends), Thai Yang (brought 5friends), Bee Wan, Irina, Siew Mei, Shet Yee, Shueh-Yi, Lydia
Sim, Iviane, Lynn, Irene, Wai Kit, Tiong Tung, Jeremiah, Joel, and Kar Fai.
Thank you for your participations and support to the group.
Not forgetting all the commanders and committees for James, thank you. And this is especially for Wai Yee, thank you for volunteering to be a good watergirl.
Without any of you guys here, it
won’t be group James. Oi!

Okay guys, it's finally up. The JBJ Lounge is now open at http://jbjlounge.blogspot.com for everyone to go and visit. Above is a sneak preview.
Yeah, I know it doesnt' look super nice yet, but soon it will. Given time, anything is possible. Go on, post something. Be part of the JBJ revolution.
Hey,
Here's some pretty cool vids from our last group outing last Saturday. Basically, it's about everyone's favourite topic again - Food! We went to this place near the Cheras roundabout called Payathin and had all manner of Chinese food. How interesting! Here's what the JBJ folks have to say:
Hey guys and girls,
It's time to show your mettle! That means, we gotta show how tough, how fast, how strong, how clever we are to the rest of the Pee-Why-Pee! That's right, it's Petra Olympics time. First things first, here's the deal:
When? 10 February 2007, Saturday
What time? 3:00 p.m.
Where? Petra Gospel Centre, Taman Kencana - in Cheras]
What to where? Sports clothes, and BLUE T-shirt. Even better, your JBJ T-Shirt.
So what exactly is Petra Olympics? It's the time where we run a good race (tha'ts 100m, 400m relay, 110m hurdles), demonstrate pin-point precision (that's golf), top-notch strategy and teamwork (street basketball) and our favourite - lot's and lot's of team spirit! (Cheerleading)
In fact, this year, our team spirit is so boiling hot that we've already put together some nifty moves. Check this out:
Of course, then compare that to this... the pros...we're better right?
So, see you at Petra Olympics 2007. Be there, or be...errr... missing out on all the fun.
Once a year, all the leaders of PYP will get away to a secret meeting at a secret place. This year, we snuck a full 30 people into two apartments in the heart of KL to have one and a half day of praying and planning and... EATING.
Okay, actually the eating part comes last. But on the last day, us leaders will have some nice makan together. You know, the kind of, fellowship over food kind of thing? Here's a video report capturing this very event as it happens.
First, we stroll down Jalan Bukit Bintang towards our headed destination - Jalan Alor:
It took quite a while for the leaders to decide what food to have. For some reason, deciding where to eat seems to be the most difficult task. But then, once again, superwoman Wai Yee comes to the rescue. This Penang girl seems to know the makan places of KL even better than us KL folk.
So we settled at a shop:
And placed our orders. The shop was your tradiitonal fare, but it seems everyone was going for the pork noodles. This is the noodle where you have swine intestines and gizzards and such being made into soup to go with the noodles.
Drinks came first and we were having a bit of a banter. These guitar guys came up and started playing and singing a song. They were pretty good singers - talent scouts should really come down to Jalan Alor. That's where all the singing talent is in Malaysia! Of course, I didn't dare to record them for fear of getting my camera snatched and thrown down. You know how these stars are these days.
After much waiting, we finally received our food. It was fantastically delicious. Nyam Nyam.
So, members, what do you learn? The lesson is that you've got to work hard, serve hard so that one day you can become a committee member and go for leader's retreat too. And have nice food. Remember, that's the goal!
Happy serving!
We came, we saw, we fought hard.
That's the story of the Human Foosball competition just last Saturday, 27 January 2007. It wasa day of miracles and also heartbreak. Last minute goals, disallowed goals and dramatic cheering really heightened the atmosphere.
But first, we had a no less interesting session where challenging questions on faith were answered by our top mentors. Here's a clip we managed to sneak, and it really helps answer some of those nagging doubts you've been having about service in church:
Then, in the second period of PYP, the games began. You can see our coverage of that here in the pre-match round-up and catch some of that excited cheering. The arena was set, the teams were ready. Who was going to win? The first round match-ups pit Peter and Andrew, whilst Stephen would take on James (your very own group.)
Pre-Match Interviews:
As you can see, the stage was set for what was going to be a really, really competitive Human Foosball challenge. And here are clips from the match between Andrew and Peter:
It was a tough fight (everyone always says this even though it was easy for one team ;)), but Peter triumphed in the end 2-0 thanks to goals on either side by 'The Kid' (can't remember his name) and Yen Ling ensured maximum points.
Up next, was JBJ versus Stephen. Coverage here is divided into two halves:
Stephen shocked James with an early goal coming from Kayson, smashed into the net just beyond the reach of JBJ'ian goalkeeper Cyrus. But James stepped up to fight, to end the half 2-1. A goal apiece from our strikeforce of Jason and (I forgot who else scored, can someone help me out here?) ensured that James would go into the second half with a slim lead.
Kick-off was tense for the second half:
Would James prevail? For a moment, it looked like they wouldn't. Massive substitutions meant an unfamiliar-looking line-up in the midfield. Early into the second half, James conceded the equaliser to a superb placed shot by (again, I forget who). The fighting was onerous. Stephen pressured James at every inch of the way. But, we would prevail. Just as the closing seconds were happening, some magical stuff happened and a timed midfield pass was slotted into the Stephen goal, past a pedestrian Michael Loo. GOOOOAAAAALLLL!!! And the crowd went wild.
So it was to be a Peter - James final - Go JBJ!
As the third-fourth playoffs were being played, we took the time to interview the managers from both Peter and James to see what they thought their chances were in the Final:
Clearly, both managers were going to be banking on the form of their strikers - the on-fire Chong Yen Ling and the untested Thiagu.
Could two players really make a difference? Only 30 minutes of game time will tell. And so, the match kicked off:
Both managers had the wisdom to field untried and untested "fresh" players in the first half, giving some team members fresh and valuable experience. It's extremely important to let members participate in the games, so our victory becomes theirs.
A rousing start to the final saw heavy contests in the midfield with Peter taking advantage of their slight experience to drive the ball forward often. But it was James that struck first. Like a bullet, James commander Jason Boi struck the ball into the back of the Peter net, only to have it disallowed for a foul in midfield:
Meanwhile, Assistant Commander and Manager Cyrus Liew held the opposition back on the other end of the court, stopping more than his fair share of shots.
Back on the other end, Jason put the ball in yet again as James confidence built up. But, yet again, it was disallowed for a foul somewhere in the middle of the field. Still, both teams battled hard.
Yet, all the hard work was to be undone with a momentary lapse of concentration in the final minute of time. An unblocked pass from Ernest through to the Peter attack saw striker Dillon putting the ball into the James net and ending JBJ's hopes of glory.
That said and done, we're still proud of our achievement andd 300 points is nothing to sneeze at. Plus, today was the first time we wore our spanking new T-shirts and there isn't another group that can match this identity. Have a look at this:

Okay, sorry, real life caught up with virtual life and your regular JNN reporter fell sick. But, though much delayed, here it is finally, our JBJ Investiture Report. There are some really cool videos below, so scroll down.
Firstly, here are some pictures:
1. Pledge-taking
Here it is commanders. Your pledge. We have a video of those promises you made in front of a witness of more than a hundred people. So, may God be with you this year! Hold the Line!
2. James, Hold The Line Game
Right after the pledge taking, Group James, Brother of Jesus, had to Hold the Line - literally. With one piece of Raffia string, you had a whole group of people going through an obstacle course, trying NOT to break the string. Here it is, in full video splendour:
3. Investing in Group James, Brother of Jesus
When both guys and girls finally made it into James War Room of Planning Devious Strategies to Win Souls for Christ (JWRPDSWSC), the time for investiture proper had come. To start things off, we had an inspiring speech from our dear Commander, Jason Boi.
And upon finishing his Inspirational Speech, the Commander proceeded to pledge in our new members. Once everyone was officially a JBJ-ian, we popped the cork and Yammed-Oied.
Well, we hope all our newly-inducted JBJ-ian members really feel like JBJ-ians. Do come this Saturday for even more fun and laughter with our annul Foosball competition.
Whilst all the other news sites are now covering what happened at investiture, your friendly neighbourhood JNN (JBJ News Network) is going one step up and bringing you PRE-investiture coverage.
Ever wanted to see what happens the night before investiture? Here are a couple of pictures:
Of course, our fearless commander leads the charge. View his presidential speech:
Of course, any fine leader also leads by example. And so, have a look at Leader Jason's example below:
Stay tuned. Tomorrow, we'll bring you the juicy parts of Investiture 2007 as well as 10 reasons why we will win this year. Oi!
